Magic Marty

A passion for skating & music drew Marty down the DJ path.  Starting in 1980 at the old Mainstreet USA Roller Rink (currently USA Skate Center) as the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night DJ,  Marty taught himself to mix; one of the newest trends at the rinks at that time.  Marty cut his teeth on what we now call ‘Old School’.

Moving to Techniques 1200 turntables with crates of 12” vinyl in tow he was tutored by Mickey Oliver of the “Hot Mix 5” heard on WBMX Radio.    Marty then gained his signature name Magic and progressed with two and four table mixing skills to local clubs such as Limelight, Snuggery, Studebakers,  J&S Grand and many private dance parties.  These parties drew him into private events including weddings, divorce parties, reunions, retirement parties, school  events, military reunions, graduations and expanded his passion and entertainment skills.

One of Magic’s favorite experiences was spinning in Hakuba, Japan at one of the clubs that hosted the athletes and guests at the 1998 Winter Olympics (they did have Technique 1200’s).  Spinning half way around the world reminds us just how small the world we live in can be.

After over 30 years’ experience, a friendship with the owners of USA Skate Center in Romeoville, IL brought Magic back to his roots creating an Old School Night.  Coming full circle back to his beginning reinvigorated the passion for the music and mixing, one of his strongest skills.

Technology and the progression over decades from vinyl to MP3 and now internet radio has brought the interest and fun back to music.  This internet radio opportunity has the potential to reach worldwide markets and a very intriguing opportunity to work with old friend Greg Murray who has helped Magic polish his skill set even further.
